A Little Too Close?

This is another one that had a mind of its own. I began with a little green tree frog, and after a short time it became a purple frog with a fairly menacing attitude! Of course, a naive butterfly had to come flying by to create a little drama... So here he is, Mr. Purple Attitude, watching this butterfly coming toward him, and the question is: Is our little bug "A Little To-o-o Close?"

3 Geckos: Hide and Seek

Geckos seem to be everywhere in Hawaii, and one day while sitting in front of a shop in Kona, I watched the owner feeding little pieces of fruit to a whole herd of these little green guys. As I watched them, I noticed how they hesitated, waiting on each other or taking turns, and then would suddenly charge one way or the other. It got pretty comical, as if there was a game afoot, so I decided to paint them.

Sea Turtle

Like so many natural treasures who live in the clear reef-waters of Hawaii, the green sea turtle is beloved by native peoples and a wonder to those tourists lucky enough to get a close-up view. They can sometimes be seen close to shore, feeding on sea grasses and algae. We saw several of these gentle giants while snorkling the surf just south of Konatown and got a few photos to use later for models.
